A 44-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Ekumfi is standing trial over allegations that he sexually abused his four daughters at Gomoa Dominase in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The suspect is accused of subjecting the children to various forms of sexual abuse, including alleged defilement and sodomy.
The case came to light after the children’s mother, Antoinette Boakye, reportedly noticed something unusual about her eldest daughter, who was then 12 years old.
Speaking to Adom News, Madam Boakye said she became concerned after noticing an unusual discharge from the child. She reportedly questioned her daughter repeatedly about what had happened before the girl allegedly disclosed that her father had sexually abused her.
According to the mother, the child further alleged that the suspect had subjected her to sexual abuse. She also claimed that her other daughters, aged six, eight and another younger child, were allegedly subjected to abuse.
Madam Boakye said the children were allegedly threatened with death if they spoke about what they had experienced.
The allegations prompted the family to report the matter to the Kasoa Millennium City Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the commencement of investigations.
The case has since proceeded to court, where the accused is standing trial over the allegations.
Madam Boakye, however, has expressed concern about what she considers delays in the judicial process. She is appealing to the relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is handled expeditiously and that the children’s welfare remains a priority throughout the proceedings.
She has also called for the four children to receive appropriate protection and professional support while the case continues.
The mother said the children need access to counselling and other forms of assistance to help them cope with the situation.
Cases involving alleged sexual abuse of children require careful handling because of the potential impact on the victims and the need to protect their privacy and welfare. Authorities are therefore expected to ensure that the children receive the necessary protection while allowing the court process to take its course.
The allegations against Emmanuel Ekumfi remain allegations until determined by a court of competent jurisdiction. The accused is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence throughout the trial.
