The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and killing of a 40-year-old gold buyer, identified as Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when armed men allegedly attacked the victim’s gold-buying shop.
According to the police, the attackers shot Seth Kobina in the chest before fleeing from the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Following the incident, the Western Regional Police Command commenced investigations to identify the perpetrators and establish the circumstances surrounding the robbery and killing.
Preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage from the area, reportedly led investigators to identify 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, also known as “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the group involved in the robbery.
Amponsah was arrested on Friday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta.
Police said a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
However, following his arrest, Amponsah reportedly became ill and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention. He was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.
Investigations into the case continued despite his death, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects in the Agona Nkwanta area.
They have been identified as 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”; 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim; and 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”.
The fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
Police said a search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, Quayeson reportedly identified the deceased’s alleged shooter as Emmanuel Amponsah. He also reportedly identified Thomas Odoom as one of the individuals captured in the CCTV footage being reviewed by investigators.
The arrests are expected to assist the police in piecing together the events surrounding the attack and determining the respective roles allegedly played by the suspects.
The five suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations as security authorities continue efforts to identify and arrest other individuals believed to have been involved in the robbery.
The incident has raised concerns among residents and people involved in the gold-buying business in the area, given the security risks associated with gold trading and the handling of cash.
The police have assured the public that investigations will continue until the full circumstances surrounding the incident are established.
Authorities are also working to track down any other persons who may have participated in the robbery and killing of Seth Kobina.
The Western Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all persons found to have played a role in the incident are brought before the appropriate authorities to face justice.
