The Ministry of Education has issued a warning to students, parents and guardians over fake and digitally manipulated Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) placement slips being circulated on social media.
According to the Ministry, some individuals are altering genuine placement documents and falsely claiming that the government has changed students’ original Senior High School (SHS) placement results.
In a statement issued on September 9, 2026, the Ministry described the claims as false and misleading and urged the public to rely only on placement information obtained through official CSSPS channels.
The Ministry said preliminary internal verification had revealed that some of the placement slips circulating online do not correspond with records generated from the official CSSPS platform.
One of the major discrepancies identified involves the barcodes and QR codes appearing on some of the purported placement slips.
The Ministry explained that the barcodes and QR codes on the documents do not match the placement information presented on the slips being circulated as evidence of alleged changes to students’ placements.
It further stated that its internal system records and audit logs do not support claims that students’ placements had been changed.
According to the Ministry, the evidence available indicates that some of the affected documents have been digitally manipulated or otherwise altered to create the impression that students have been assigned to different schools.
The Ministry described the development as a serious attempt to undermine public confidence in the CSSPS placement process while creating unnecessary confusion and anxiety among students, parents and guardians.
The matter has consequently been referred to the Cyber Security Authority and other relevant security agencies for investigation and appropriate action.
The authorities are expected to investigate the individuals responsible for creating and circulating the allegedly manipulated placement documents.
The warning comes as families across Ghana continue to follow the 2026 SHS placement exercise and seek information about the schools to which students have been assigned.
With placement information being widely shared through social media platforms, the Ministry has urged families to exercise particular caution before accepting or forwarding documents received online.
Parents, guardians and students have been advised to verify their placement information through the official CSSPS platform and other authorised channels rather than relying on screenshots, forwarded messages or unofficial social media posts.
The Ministry also assured the public that legitimate concerns about placement will be investigated through the appropriate channels.
It reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the 2026 CSSPS placement exercise is conducted with transparency, fairness, integrity and accountability.
The development highlights the importance of verifying placement information as students prepare for the next stage of their secondary education.
