EC addresses Ghanaians ahead of voters registration exercise today
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa will today Monday, June 29, 2020 address Ghanaians on the modalities for the new voters register the Commission is set to compile.
The Supreme Court in its ruling last week gave the electoral commission the green light to start the compilation of a new voters register after the National Democratic Congress, NDC, and some private citizens sued the EC to prevent the commission from compiling the register.
The court also ruled that the old voters ID card and Ghana’s birth certificate cannot be used as a form of identification at the registration centers and that only the Ghana card, Passport or a guarantor are the only forms of identification for the registration exercise.
In line with this, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa will address the country today to relay the modalities for the registration process to Ghanaians and also to inform the country on the preparedness of the commission for the exercise.
The Electoral Commission’s Chairperson is expected to address the country at 5:30pm today.
