The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested close to 51 residents of new Dormaa following clashes between some irate youth and the police service on Wednesday, 15 May 2019.

The youth, who were protesting about the poor nature of the Sunyani-Techiman dual carriage road became unruly and resorted to burning car tyres on the highway.

They also locked up a police officer in a kiosk and demanded the release of their colleague, which led to a melee.

An eyewitness, Mr Frederick Asante told Class News: “Yesterday, at around 8 p.m., another person was knocked down by a moving vehicle and the guys got angry and blocked the road, preventing vehicular movement.

“So, the police were called in to calm their nerves but the guys did not understand and still demanded to see the Regional Minster to ask her measures she has put in place to make sure the road is fixed and, so, one of the guys was arrested by the police and the youth also got angry and took one of the police officers hostage and hid him in a container demanding that their colleague be released.

“This led to the firing of a warning shot by the police and a commotion [ensued]. Four people were injured and 51 others arrested”.
