CID pursues gunmen who held Nhyiaeso MP, family hostage
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations into an attack by armed men on Nhyiaeso parliamentarian, Kennedy Kankam, and his family.
Police say three gunmen held the victims for over three hours before making away with some items from the legislator’s house including a four-wheel vehicle at dawn on Sunday.
The unidentified assailants reportedly scaled a wall into the main yard of the Member of Parliament’s (MP) residence and used a metal cutter to gain access to the bedroom of the legislator.
Confirming the story to Nhyira News, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, said the gunmen succeeded in robbing the MP and his family of an unspecified amount of money, a land cruiser and pump action gun.
Police have since retrieved the vehicle abandoned at Edwinase, about 15-kilometres away from the crime scene, but no arrest has been made yet.
Crime scene personnel have visited the MP’s home and statements taken from him, his wife and the househelp.
The attack on the MP follows last week’s killing of Takoradi constituency treasurer of the NPP, Mark Ofori, at Fijai.
Suspected murder of former MP for Abuakwa North, J.B. Danquah-Adu, in his house in Accra, is yet to be resolved.
