A three-storey commercial building in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, has collapsed just hours after officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed the structure and directed occupants to vacate the premises.
The building reportedly collapsed on Monday evening, September 7, 2026, prompting an emergency response from security and disaster management agencies.
The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call about the incident at approximately 7:45 p.m. and immediately deployed officers to the location.
Personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service, the FCTA and other emergency agencies also joined the search-and-rescue operation.
Three ambulances were reportedly stationed at the scene as emergency workers searched through the debris to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
According to the authorities, no victim had been confirmed at the time of the initial report. However, rescue teams continued their search to establish the full extent of the incident.
Preliminary findings by the police indicated that the building had already been marked and sealed by the FCTA’s Department of Development Control before it collapsed.
The department had reportedly directed people occupying the building to leave the premises because of concerns surrounding the structure.
