Zack Orji narrates how he slumped, underwent two surgeries in Nigeria

Zack Orji, a seasoned Nollywood actor, has detailed candidly a terrifying incident that required two brain surgeries in Nigeria.

The veteran described the sequence of events that led to a serious medical issue when he slumped in the restroom in an interview that aired on Channels TV on Sunday, April 21.

He said: “I slumped in the bathroom, and I can only say that it’s by the grace of God that I’m alive today because I passed out. I was out for like five and a half hours before help came.”

People at Orji’s house informed his friend, Bala Ahmed, who was at the time in the UK, and colleagues quickly responded, racing to his rescue.

He recounted: “Benedict Johnson rushed to the house, and I was there on the floor, incoherent. I couldn’t even stand because when he raised me, I slumped again, and he had to call another colleague whom we call Labista. So the two of them lifted me on their shoulders from the second floor to the ground floor and took me to the National Hospital.”

After learning of the situation, Zack Orji’s wife, who was at the time in Lagos, took a plane to Abuja. Dr. Biodun Ogungbo, a neurosurgeon, conducted the initial surgery on the actor on January 1.

The veteran had another surgery with the same physician a month later when scans showed that there was still a blood clot present.

Zack Orji mentioned that he had the backing of notable individuals such as the Nigerian President, the wives of the President and the Vice President, the President’s son, and several ministries.

He said: “But in all of it, I’m grateful to God Almighty and I’m also grateful to so many people who stepped in. The President of Nigeria, the First Lady, the wife to the Vice President, the President’s son, the Minister for Women’s Affairs, the Minister for Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, the Minister for Works, and a whole lot of other people.

“I was receiving calls from South Africa, from the UK, from the US, from some of them were willing to, they were asking me, how can we help? How can we be of assistance? So it was overwhelming the way people responded to the whole thing,” Zack Orji expressed.

Zack Orji was advised to seek post-surgery evaluation in the UK, where he conferred with Dr. John Yeh, following his recovery in Nigeria.

He added: “I’m grateful to God Almighty and I’m also grateful to so many people who stepped in.”

Recall that social media was awash, four weeks ago, of the death of the veteran Nollywood star.

The death rumours came after news was reported that he had slumped and was in critical condition.
