Tension has reportedly escalated at the Kantanka Museum in Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region after armed security personnel prevented elders of the Kristo Asafo Mission from entering the facility.
A video circulating online shows a confrontation between the elders and security personnel stationed at the entrance of the museum, with the guards reportedly telling the elders that they had been instructed not to allow them access to the premises.
The development comes amid an increasingly heated dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission and the family of its late founder, Apostle Prof. Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The Kantanka Museum forms part of the Apostle Safo Suayɛ Centre of Excellence, a large facility associated with the late inventor and industrialist. The museum was reportedly established to preserve his legacy and fulfil some of his final wishes.
According to reports, the security personnel cited an “order from above” when denying the church elders entry. The identities of those who issued the alleged directive have not been officially confirmed.
The incident has also emerged at a time when unverified claims are circulating about an alleged attempt to exhume the remains of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Fashion personality Osebo the Zaraman recently raised concerns over an alleged plan to exhume the late industrialist’s remains from his burial site in Winneba. The allegation has not been independently confirmed by the police or any other official authority.
Separately, reports have emerged that military personnel visited the Kantanka Museum following claims that a group of men had allegedly been sent to exhume Kantanka’s body. One person was reportedly apprehended and questioned, while the whereabouts of other alleged suspects remained unclear.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed that an exhumation attempt took place, nor have they officially established the identities or motives of those allegedly involved.
The latest confrontation is part of a broader dispute that has developed following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka in September 2025.
His children, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, and Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been associated with opposing positions in the succession and leadership disputes surrounding the Kristo Asafo Mission and the late industrialist’s properties.
Dr Kwesi Safo, Deputy Secretary of the Kristo Asafo Mission, has also accused Adwoa Safo of using security personnel to take control of the museum. He claimed the museum was constructed at a cost exceeding GH¢12 million and that the church had been involved in its development. These claims form part of the ongoing dispute and have not been independently adjudicated in the reports reviewed.
The denial of access to the elders has therefore added another layer to the growing controversy surrounding the museum, the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the management of properties associated with Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
As the dispute continues, attention is now focused on whether the relevant authorities will intervene and clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported security deployment and the allegations concerning the late founder’s remains.
