Tell us what you did for the youth while in office – Matilda Asare dares Mahama

Ghanaian actress Matilda Asare is challenging former President John Mahama to mention one policy or programme he implemented to support the Ghanaian youth during his tenure as president of Ghana.

According to Matilda Asare, ex-president Mahama has no track record in youth empowerment or capacity building of the Ghanaian youth, therefore, finds it shameful for him to talk against the policies Akufo-Addo has for the youth.

“Imagine that during the 8-year tenure of Mr Mahama, if he had had half of Akufo-Addo’s thought and even supported at least 1000 youth, by now, some of them would have established and expanded their businesses greatly to be able to employ a lot more people”, she said.

In a statement released by the actress she noted that:

All the bad policies of former President Mahama were strongly against youth development. Mentions can be made of the cancellation of the trainee allowances, which supports the youth in Education and how he mismanaged and turned the Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA) into a corruption arena.

Not to talk about the more than 7 years embargo on employment. Indeed, it was really a hell under Mr Mahama and the NDC!

On the contrarily, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo under the National Entrepreneurship Initiative Programme (NEIP) has awarded a GHC30 million funding package to a total of 3000 entrepreneurs selected from across the 16 regions of Ghana to help scale-up their businesses.

Under the ‘Window two’ (2) of the Presidential Business Support program, these youth will also receive continuous training in capacity building, free accounting services, mentorship and advisory services among others.

Nana Akufo Addo’s policies for the youth clearly puts him above Mr Mahama who has no track record or had no single programme to empower the young Ghanaian during his 8 regrettable years in power.

As he goes across the length and breadth of the country seeking to discredit President Akufo Addo’s programmes and policies he never could have thought of or what he could never have done; we humbly dare him to mention just one policy he instituted to support the empowerment of Ghana youth.

Signed

Matilda Asare
