A FIFA-licensed football agent, Nana Kwarteng, has revealed why he advised Libyan club Al Swehly against pursuing a move for Ghana captain Jordan Ayew.
According to Kwarteng, the Libyan club had identified Ayew as a potential attacking signing and was considering making an approach for the experienced Ghana international. However, the agent said he advised the club to reconsider the move because of Ayew’s responsibilities as captain of the Black Stars.
Kwarteng explained that Ayew’s role with the Ghana national team was an important factor in his advice to the Libyan side. The comments have attracted attention because the forward remains an important figure within the Black Stars setup and is expected to continue providing leadership for the national team.
The revelation comes at a significant point in Ayew’s club career. The Ghana captain is currently looking for a new club after his contract with Leicester City expired at the end of the 2025/26 season. His next destination has consequently become a subject of interest among Ghanaian football supporters.
Ayew’s immediate club future is particularly important because Ghana is preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with the qualifiers scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Regular club football could be crucial for the forward as he seeks to maintain his fitness and match sharpness ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international assignments. The timing of the transfer situation has therefore placed additional attention on where he will continue his career.
Despite being without a club, Ayew has reportedly continued training at Nania Park to maintain his physical condition while his representatives work on securing his next move.
He has been training alongside several familiar Ghanaian football figures, including his brother André Ayew and former Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.
The reported interest from Al Swehly indicates that clubs outside Europe’s major leagues are also monitoring the experienced Ghanaian forward. However, Kwarteng’s comments suggest that considerations beyond the player’s ability on the pitch were taken into account when the Libyan club was assessing a possible transfer.
Ayew has enjoyed a lengthy international career and has become one of the more experienced members of Ghana’s national team. His leadership role means that his club situation is also being watched closely in relation to his continued involvement with the Black Stars.
The forward’s search for a new club comes after Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Ayew had joined the English club after leaving Crystal Palace and went on to feature for the Foxes during the season.
With the European summer transfer window approaching its deadline, Ayew and his representatives have limited time to finalise his next destination. The decision will likely be influenced by several factors, including playing opportunities, the club’s ambitions and his international commitments.
For Ghana, securing regular football for the national team captain will be an important consideration as the Black Stars prepare for the next phase of their international campaign.
Kwarteng’s disclosure has therefore provided fresh insight into one of the possible destinations that had been considered for Ayew, while also highlighting how his role as Ghana captain can influence decisions surrounding his club career.
