New Patriotic Party (NPP) First National Vice Chairman Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, has explained his absence from the party’s first leadership meeting following the election of its new national executives.
Kojo Bamba was absent when the newly elected NPP executives held their first meeting on October 6, 2026, and later met with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
His absence attracted attention and generated speculation, particularly on social media, with some reports suggesting that he may have been sidelined by other members of the new leadership.
However, Kojo Bamba has rejected such suggestions, explaining that he had another engagement to attend and had sought permission from the party before being absent.
According to him, he was informed about the meeting with the NPP flagbearer but requested permission from his colleagues to excuse himself because he had an urgent matter to attend to.
He also dismissed reports of a disagreement between himself and the newly elected Second National Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B.
Kojo Bamba said he has worked with Nana B for several years without any major disagreement and maintained that there is no dispute between them.
He explained that after the national executive elections, he contacted Nana B and other candidates to discuss how they could work together despite the outcome of the contest.
The clarification comes after the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on October 3, where Kojo Bamba emerged as the First National Vice Chairman.
He secured 3,116 votes in the contest, finishing ahead of Henry Nana Boakye, who obtained 3,061 votes. Nana Akomea placed third with 2,987 votes and became the Third National Vice Chairman.
The voting arrangement meant that the three candidates who obtained the highest number of votes occupied the three vice-chairmanship positions, with their ranking determined by their respective vote totals.
Kojo Bamba also addressed reports suggesting that discussions had taken place to alter the positions after the election, with claims that he could have been asked to accept the Third Vice Chairman position.
He denied the reports, saying nobody from the party leadership approached him to relinquish the First National Vice Chairman position in favour of Nana B or Nana Akomea.
Nana Akomea has similarly denied claims that he and Nana B attempted to negotiate with Kojo Bamba over the ranking of the vice-chairmen.
With the new executives now beginning their work, Kojo Bamba has called for unity among the party’s leadership and members.
He said the election should be put behind them and the new executives should concentrate on rebuilding the NPP and working together toward the party’s objectives ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The explanation also seeks to dispel suggestions that his absence from the first engagements of the new leadership was the result of internal tensions within the party.
