Japhet Festus Gbede Elected NDC Deputy Communications Officer in Akatsi South

Japhet Festus Gbede has been elected Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akatsi South Constituency following the party’s internal elections held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

His election is expected to contribute to efforts to strengthen the party’s communication structure, improve information dissemination and promote effective engagement between constituency executives, party members and the wider public.

Gbede, who also serves as the Assemblymember for the Wuxor, Have and Sremanu Electoral Area, brings experience in local governance and community development to his new political responsibility.

As Deputy Communications Officer, he is expected to work closely with the constituency Communications Officer and other members of the communication team to communicate the party’s policies, activities and positions on issues affecting residents.

His responsibilities will also include helping to respond to public concerns, ensuring that information reaches party members and supporting efforts to maintain effective communication between the constituency leadership and the electorate.

Speaking to the media after his victory, Gbede expressed gratitude to the delegates who voted for him, describing their support as a responsibility he was determined to honour through dedication, discipline and hard work.

He pledged to contribute to building a vibrant, proactive and results-oriented communication team capable of projecting the party’s activities, explaining its policies and engaging constructively with the public.

Gbede stressed that effective political communication requires more than sharing information. In his view, the party must also be able to listen to concerns, respond to questions and communicate in ways that strengthen relationships with residents and supporters.

He further called for unity among party members, emphasising that his election should be regarded as a collective mandate rather than an individual achievement.

According to him, collaboration among constituency executives, communicators and grassroots members would be essential to building a communication structure that serves the needs of the party and the wider community.

“This mandate is a call to service, not a trophy for personal glorification. I am deeply grateful to every delegate who believed in me, and I pledge to justify your confidence through hard work, loyalty and effective communication,” Gbede said.

His appeal for unity comes as the newly elected constituency executives are expected to work together to strengthen internal coordination and prepare the party for its future political activities.

Gbede’s experience as an assemblymember could also provide opportunities to connect local governance issues with the party’s communication efforts. His involvement in community affairs places him in a position to engage with residents on matters affecting their electoral area, while his new role will require him to work within the party’s broader communication framework.

The effectiveness of the new communication team will depend on coordination, consistency and its ability to provide timely and accurate information to members and the public.

Gbede has assured the party’s rank and file of his readiness to work with the Communications Officer and other constituency executives to build a responsive and organised communication system.

His election marks a new responsibility in his political journey, with expectations that he will contribute to strengthening the NDC’s communication machinery in Akatsi South through teamwork, accountability and sustained engagement with the electorate.
