Suspected killer of MoMo vendor in Upper East arrested

The Savannah Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the robbery and alleged murder of a mobile money vendor, Benjamin Apuri, and another victim at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region.

The suspect, Nuhu Mumuni, was apprehended at Mankarigu, a suburb of the North Gonja District in the Savannah Region, following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the police.

Savannah Regional Police Commander, COP Samuel Winful, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Damongo, noting that Mumuni had been on the Upper East Region’s wanted list. He was arrested on April 8, 2025, at his hideout in Mankarigu.

The robbery incident took place on March 3, 2025, when Benjamin Apuri, a mobile money agent at Pwalugu, was shot and killed, and an unspecified amount of money was stolen by the robbers.

The Savannah Regional Police Command has expressed its readiness to transfer the suspect to the Upper East Region to face trial.

COP Samuel Winful also issued a warning to mobile money vendors, urging them to be cautious and vigilant in their surroundings. He advised them to monitor any suspicious activity and report it to the police for appropriate action.

The arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, and the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victims of this violent crime.
