As part of efforts to increase awareness and boost the confidence of Ghanaians on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccines and other ailments such as yellow fever, the light Foundation in collaboration with UNICEF have extended it’s sensitisation drive to Ho and Kumasi.
The programme which was aimed at educating the public on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccines also brought to the fore the need for Institutions to continuously educate the public as some of the residents still doubted the efficacy of the vaccines though government embarked on nationwide education.
Participants however commended the Light Foundation after the fora for embarking on the workshop and also appealed to the NGO to continue with the work they were doing to other parts of the country.
Rev. Joseph Owusu Agyemang, a participant said ” the programme has been insightful and educative, we have seen why people keep rejecting the vaccine, we have learnt the importance of the vaccine and we will also go out to become ambassadors to educate others.I pledge to educate others using my pulpit for a safe community for all of us in the Volta region”.
The CEO of the light Foundation, Sheikh Abubakar Ali Napari in an address asked residents at both Ho and Kumasi to also share the knowledge acquired to other members of the community considering the remarkable responses received from some of the beneficiary communities
He however mentioned that, not only has the vaccine become very important in the lives of people but it has also become a prerequisite for travellers across the globe especially moslems who had to embark on the pilgrimage annually.
Other speakers from the the regional health directorates highlighted on the need for all Ghanaians to take the COVID-19 vaccination seriously inorder to avoid the spread though statistics a available indicates infection rates have reduced tremendously in recent times.
The training workshop for the faith actors and religious leaders brought together regional chief imams, representatives from the Peace Council, youth leaders, women groups among others.
The light Foundation which has operated for over a decade has supported Ghana’s development efforts through peace building initiatives, provision of water to deprived communities, child protection among others.
