Pooley died before Nsoatreman scored – Atta Poku reveals details of Nsoatreman incident

Ace broadcast journalist Collins Atta Poku has shared further details about how popular Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley lost his life at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Atta Poku revealed that, contrary to reports that Pooley passed away at the hospital, he died in the stadium.

“Kotoko wanted to boycott the game at some point. Pooley died before Nsoatreman scored their goal. Pooley died in the stadium, even before the game ended,” he told Emmanuel Enin in an interview on GhanaWeb TV.

He further revealed that referee George Mawuli Vormawah opposed Kotoko’s decision to abandon the game, claiming that he was acting on orders from above.

“Kotoko wanted to end the game when the scuffle ensued. I am reliably informed that when they attempted to do so, referee George Vormawah told them that he had spoken to the bosses in Accra, who directed him to continue the match. Why would you want to proceed when you know the security situation at hand?”

The CEO of Aduana FC condemned the incident, labelling it “barbaric” and urging the police to lead investigations to ensure that all culprits face the law.

Atta Poku backed Asante Kotoko’s decision to boycott the league, stating that the club should take the lead for others to follow.

“They are the strongest team in the league. Boycotting the league will send a strong signal that things must be done right. You can’t continue like this. This is the time for them to show leadership. They have to lead for others to follow. It is long overdue.”

Nana Pooley tragically passed away after reportedly being stabbed five times and succumbing to his injuries.

As a result, Asante Kotoko has announced its withdrawal from the Ghana Premier League (GPL), while the Ghana Police Service has already begun making arrests in connection with the violent clash that erupted during the match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
