Police in Uror County of Jonglei state in South Sudan have arrested a man on suspicion of involvement in last week’s murder of a woman.
On June 9, a young woman was waylaid, robbed, and killed by armed men while heading to Pathai from Motot area.
County Police Inspector Gatbel Machar told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the suspect admitted to having participated in the criminal act.
“The suspect admitted that he shot dead the woman for refusing to give them the grains she was carrying. According to our investigation, the suspect was accompanied by two other men whom he refused to disclose,” Gatbel Machar said.
He pointed out that more investigations are still ongoing and that the suspect will either be tried by traditional chiefs or forwarded to Bor town.
For his part, Machot Gatluak Kenyjak, the area Commissioner, condemned the incident and said that such crimes are common because residents are going hungry without food aid.
