Mbappé, Piqué, Messi and other football stars pay tribute to Jesús de Miguel after his death

Football stars, clubs and prominent sports personalities across the world have expressed their condolences following the death of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel Alameda at the age of 30.
Among those who have paid tribute to the late striker are Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, Lionel Messi, tennis legend Rafael Nadal and basketball star Pau Gasol.
Their messages followed the tragic death of De Miguel after he suffered a medical emergency during a Spanish second-division encounter between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra.
The incident occurred on November 2, 2026, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium, where Tenerife were playing FC Andorra in a match that ended 2-2.
De Miguel reportedly collapsed following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during the closing stages of the game.
Owono had come out of his goal to challenge for a long ball when he collided with the Tenerife forward. The incident immediately raised concerns among players and officials, prompting medical personnel to rush onto the pitch to attend to the injured footballer.
Medical staff reportedly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on De Miguel before he was transported to hospital for further treatment.
Although his pulse was reportedly restored during the emergency response, his condition deteriorated overnight. CD Tenerife subsequently announced that the striker had died at approximately 8:00 a.m. on November 3, 2026.
The news sent shockwaves through Spanish football and attracted reactions from several prominent figures in the sporting world.
Mbappé was among the personalities who expressed sadness over the incident, sharing a message of condolence and wishing the deceased footballer eternal rest.
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué also paid tribute to De Miguel. Piqué, who is the majority shareholder of FC Andorra, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and extended his condolences to the player’s family and loved ones.
Argentine football icon Lionel Messi also joined the growing list of personalities mourning the Tenerife striker, sending messages of sympathy and strength to his family and friends.
Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal and former basketball star Pau Gasol were also among those who expressed their condolences following the tragic development.
Meanwhile, several football clubs and sporting organisations have honoured the memory of the deceased player.
Real Madrid observed a minute of silence before a training session in recognition of the late footballer, while the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that its competitions during the week would observe a minute of silence in his memory.
The Spanish Football Federation also postponed scheduled matches in the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina following the tragedy.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of medical preparedness and emergency response during sporting competitions, particularly when players suffer serious injuries or medical emergencies on the pitch.
For many football supporters, the death of De Miguel has been particularly painful because of the circumstances surrounding the incident and his relatively young age.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the football community, his club, teammates, family and supporters are left mourning the loss of a player whose life ended unexpectedly during a professional football match.
The messages from Mbappé, Piqué, Messi and other sporting personalities reflect the widespread sadness following the tragedy and the solidarity being shown to De Miguel’s family and the Tenerife football community.
