Man kills armed robber who tried to attack him

A SUSPECTED robber, aged about 30 years old, was disarmed and subdued with his own knife, which he had brandished at a man he attempted to rob.

The body of the deceased, whose name is yet to be known, has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, preservation and identification by the his family.

Meanwhile, Israel Nana Owusu, who disarmed the robber and stabbed him with his own knife, is on admission at a hospital and responding to treatment, having been cut in the arm by the robber, earlier on.

A police report, which confirmed the sad incident, said Nana Owusu, a Christian, attended a watch night service at Akyeremade, near Kumasi, on the night of November 12, 2022.

According to the police, during the service, Nana Owusu left the church auditorium to hand over keys to his wife, but he was attacked on the way by the suspected robber, who perhaps wanted to rob him.

“About 01:00 hours, he left the church hall to give a key to his wife in the house. Whilst on his way, the robber (now deceased) rushed on him with a knife and inflicted wounds on him.

“He struggled with him (robber), disarmed him in the process and stabbed his forehead with the knife and a club,” a police report said, adding that Nana Owusu, who was cut in the arm, was rushed to hospital by some church members.

The police were informed about the failed robbery incident so they immediately sent some of their men to the crime scene to start their investigations into the case.

“Police proceeded to the scene and found a young adult aged about 30, wearing black pants with a deep cut on the forehead lying in a pool of blood. A T-shirt, a pair of black jeans trousers, a pair of rubber slippers and a broken knife stained with blood was found lying beside him.

“The victim was rushed to the Emergency Unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival. Body was deposited at same hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy,” the police report said.
