President John Dramani Mahama has made further changes to his administration, reassigning Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi as part of his second major reshuffle since returning to office.
The changes, announced by the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, affect three government officials and take immediate effect.
Under the new arrangement, Brogya Genfi has been moved from the Ministry of Defence to the Presidency, where he will serve as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
Genfi had served as Deputy Minister for Defence since March 2025. His reassignment comes shortly after Kenneth Gilbert Adjei was moved to the Defence Ministry as substantive minister during the earlier reshuffle announced by President Mahama.
The latest changes also affect the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation and the Special Initiatives portfolio.
Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, who previously served as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation, has been reassigned to the Presidency as Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives.
Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, who previously handled the Special Initiatives portfolio, will now take over as Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation. The two officials have therefore effectively exchanged responsibilities.
The Presidency said the new assignments take immediate effect. The changes form part of President Mahama’s continuing efforts to reorganise his administration and realign government responsibilities.
The latest reshuffle comes only a few weeks after another major set of changes announced by the President on August 7, 2026.
That earlier reshuffle included the nomination of Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
President Mahama also reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Works, Housing and Water Resources portfolio to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim was moved to the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry.
Brogya Genfi’s latest reassignment comes after a period of transition at the Defence Ministry. He had worked as Deputy Defence Minister and recently supported the ministry during the change in leadership.
In August 2026, Genfi also praised Kenneth Gilbert Adjei following his nomination as Defence Minister, describing their relationship as one based on trust and service.
The Presidency has not publicly stated that Genfi’s reassignment was linked to any disciplinary issue. Instead, the announcement presents it as part of the latest restructuring of government responsibilities.
His new role as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness places him in a position focused on issues relating to national preparedness and resilience.
The latest changes further demonstrate President Mahama’s willingness to adjust portfolios within his administration as he seeks to improve the coordination and delivery of government business.
Meanwhile, the earlier ministerial nominations of Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga are scheduled for parliamentary vetting on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The latest appointments and reassignments are expected to take immediate effect as the Mahama administration continues to reorganise key areas of government.
