Mahama Orders Immediate Termination of All SML Group Contracts

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to immediately terminate all existing contracts between the government and SML Group.
The directive follows growing public concern over the transparency and accountability surrounding SML Group’s dealings with state institutions. According to the Presidency, the decision is part of a broader commitment to ensure that all government contracts meet strict standards of fairness, value for money, and compliance with procurement laws.
The move marks a strong stance by President Mahama’s administration to restore public trust and clean up questionable contractual arrangements. Government sources indicate that new procurement frameworks will soon be introduced to promote open competition and higher accountability in awarding public sector contracts.
While some stakeholders have expressed concern about potential disruptions to ongoing services, anti-corruption advocates and civil society groups have widely praised the decision, calling it a bold step toward transparency and fiscal discipline.
This development also comes as part of the government’s renewed push to scrutinize all major public contracts, ensuring that taxpayer funds are used responsibly and efficiently.
