Gender Minister Calls for Urgent Action to Tackle Emerging Threats to Women’s Inclusion

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has called for immediate and coordinated action to address new and evolving threats that undermine women’s inclusion and empowerment in society.
Speaking at a recent event, the Minister highlighted how issues such as online harassment, cyberbullying, misinformation, and digital exclusion are creating fresh barriers for women and girls, even as progress is made in other areas like education and leadership.
She noted that these challenges are not confined to technology but have far-reaching social and economic effects, often discouraging women from participating fully in public life. The Minister emphasized that to sustain the gains made in gender equality, Ghana must adopt proactive, gender-responsive digital safety measures.
She also urged government agencies, private companies, civil society groups, and technology platforms to collaborate on developing inclusive digital spaces. This includes enforcing stricter online safety regulations, improving digital literacy among women, and providing reliable reporting systems for cyber abuse.
According to the Minister, ignoring these issues could reverse years of progress toward women’s empowerment, especially for young women and girls who face disproportionate exposure to online risks. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating gender considerations into all national digital and development policies.
The call reinforces the importance of protecting women in the digital age and ensuring that inclusion efforts evolve alongside emerging global challenges.
