Iran Denies Recent Missile Launches Towards Israel Amidst Ceasefire Claims

In a rapidly evolving and highly tense situation, Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces, Abdolrahim Mousavi, has officially denied firing any missiles towards Israel in the last few hours. This statement, carried by Iranian state media, comes amidst earlier denials from Tehran that reports of an Iranian attack on Israel after the declared ceasefire were false.

The denial by General Mousavi aims to counter widespread reports and Israeli claims of continued missile activity from Iranian territory, even after a ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump was announced to take effect.

The situation remains fluid and contradictory. While Iranian state media has consistently maintained that reports of post-ceasefire attacks are untrue, Israel’s military has reported detecting and intercepting missiles launched from Iran hours after the ceasefire was meant to begin. Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, have accused Iran of violating the truce and have ordered a “forceful response” against targets in Tehran.

The ceasefire itself, a “complete and total” agreement announced by President Trump, was intended to bring an end to a 12-day conflict that has seen significant exchanges of strikes between the two nations, and involved US military actions against Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump had stated the ceasefire would be phased, with Iran initiating the halt in operations, followed by Israel.

However, the conflicting narratives from both sides highlight the fragility of the truce. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously stated that “as of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” but indicated that Iran would cease its response if Israel halted its “illegal aggression.” This suggests a conditional approach from Tehran, despite Trump’s declaration of a full agreement.

The denials from Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces underscore a clear divergence in how the recent events are being portrayed by the respective governments. As reports continue to emerge from various sources, the true extent of adherence to the ceasefire and the implications for regional stability remain uncertain.
