A 24-year-old commercial motorcycle rider has reportedly died after colliding with a cow on the Kade-Okumeni road in the Eastern Region.
The deceased, identified as Silas Mintah, was reportedly involved in the accident at Okumeni, a community near Kade in the Kwaebibirem Municipality.
According to reports, the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. while Mintah was returning home after visiting a neighbouring community.
The young rider was reportedly travelling along the road when he encountered a cow on the roadway.
The road was said to be unlit at the time, making it difficult for the rider to see the animal in time to avoid a collision.
Mintah reportedly crashed into the cow and fell from his motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries in the process.
Residents and other individuals who arrived at the scene reportedly assisted him and rushed him to the Kade Government Hospital for medical attention.
However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The incident has reportedly left residents and the deceased’s family members shocked, with concerns being raised about the presence of stray livestock on roads in the area.
Residents have expressed concern that animals wandering onto roads, particularly at night, could pose a serious danger to motorists and motorcycle riders.
