‘Fake’ Doctor Appointment: President could be misled, checks on appointees crucial

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to conduct thorough background checks on all presidential appointees, particularly those designated to serve on boards of public institutions.
According to him, such measures would help prevent embarrassing situations for the presidency.
His comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s decision on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, to revoke the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), after concerns emerged regarding her lack of a valid license to practice medicine in Ghana.
Daly had been publicly presenting herself as “Dr. Anne Daly” and offering health advice on television and at public events.
However, reports indicate that official responses from both the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and the American Board of Family Medicine confirmed that she holds no valid medical qualifications in either jurisdiction.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Asempa FM, Dennis Miracles Aboagye emphasized the need for background checks by National Security and the NIB on all presidential appointees, noting that the president could be misled in certain instances.
“My call is that National Security should conduct background checks on all the president’s appointees and submit a report, because the president may be misled in several instances. Sometimes, even after the president signs off on a list of appointees, the names on the final list are altered before it is announced. A lot happens without the president’s knowledge. The president often doesn’t have the time to review the list again before it is released. There are people with appointments that were not directly sanctioned by the president—their names were inserted without his knowledge.”
“I believe National Security and the NIB should focus on these matters. We politicians—whom they are constantly monitoring—are less than 1% of the population. For now, they should prioritize these efforts to support the president, because many people are walking around with fake credentials,” he said.
