Convicted Coup Plotter Allan Debrah Granted Bail After Meeting Court Conditions

Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu, one of the six men convicted in the 2024 coup‑plot case, has been released on bail by the Accra High Court after fulfilling the court’s conditions. Debrah, who was initially sentenced to death by hanging for high treason and treason, secured bail set at GH₵2.5 million while his appeal is underway.
A three-judge panel, led by Justice Eugene Nyadu Nyantei, granted bail citing “exceptional circumstances” that warranted his temporary release. Under the terms of his bail:
-
Debrah has surrendered his passport to the court registry.
-
He is restricted from leaving Ghana without explicit court approval.
-
He has been placed on the Stop List at all national entry and exit points.
-
One of his two sureties must provide proof of landed property as security.
The court warned that any violation of these conditions could lead to the revocation of his bail, emphasizing that Debrah must comply fully with the directives while his appeal progresses.
