All smiles as Alan meets Kufuor

The leader of the Movement of Change, Alan Kyerematen, and former President John Agyekum Kufuor have been captured in public for the first time since the former criticised the latter for saying the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is ‘the best person to lead Ghana at this moment’.

The two men met at the durbar to mark the 100th anniversary of the return of King Prempeh I from exile in the Seychelles at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Saturday, November 23, 2024, and none of them seemed to harbour any negative sentiment.

A video of the event showed the arrival of Alan at the event. As he was walking to his seat, he was prompted by a man about the presence of Kufuor.

The man could be seen pointing in the direction of Kufuor, and Alan agreed to follow him to meet the former president.

When Alan got to Kufuor, he greeted him and could be heard asking him how he was doing as he guffawed.

The former president could also be seen with a broad smile on his face as he muttered some words.

Background:

Alan was heavily criticised by leading figures of the NPP, including the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), for his criticism of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Former President Kufuor recently granted an interview to some journalists where he endorsed the candidature of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, saying that Bawumia is the best person to lead the country at this moment.

Alan, who has since described President Kufuor’s endorsement as a big blot on his illustrious political career, questioned the basis of the former president’s endorsement while calling the vice president’s competence into question.
