After Paul and Kwabena were attacked, “Paul asked us to work towards winning the 2016 elections”-Suspect in Adams murder

Asabke Alangdi, suspect in the murder of Adams Mahama has expressed in his statement to the Police, a copy of which is available to us, suggesting that, contrary to the false alarms that then NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko worked against then opposition NPP flagbearer Akufo-Addo, in the face of brutal attacks with stones on Messrs Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong at a meeting with NPP party faithfuls in a hotel at the Upper East Region, Mr Paul Afoko was keen on advising the youth in upper east region to “work together towards victory 2016.”
Giving account of the tension, suspicion and division that was growing then among the NPP ranks, Asabke recollected in his statement to the Police how then National Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong were brutally attacked by hired thugs whiles a meeting was ongoing at Agosotim Hotel in the Upper East region “when we got there the place was crowded with police presence. Some of the people were throwing stones at Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong who were inside the hotel.
Although I saw the deceased (Adams Mahama) but couldn’t talk to him. Whilst there, Gregory Afoko…arrived at the scene and the youth attacked and collected his motorbike from him in an attempt to burn it but they were prevented by STRONGMAN and the Police personnel present. The crowd forced Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong NPP National Chairman and General Secretary from the hotel…”
Asabke further remarked that after the attacks on then Chairman of NPP Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, ‘the youth that met Paul Afoko were about 30. Paul Afoko then asked to know what he has done wrong to deserve such treatment and Strongman responded by saying that they were informed that they had come to spoil Nana Addo’s vote.
Paul Afoko said that was not true but that it was the Talensi Member of Parliament who have been made chief of Tongo that they came to greet and decided to meet them. That he Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong, Alan cash, former President Kufour and Nana Addo are united to make sure that the party wins power in 2016 elections.” Indeed, this was at a time when the Talensi parliamentary seat became vacant and a by-election was imminent.
Asabke reaffirmed his statement that, Mr Paul Afoko had always interest himself with encouraging unity in the NPP ranks as he added “that he did same thing when he was contesting for the National Chairmanship of NPP in Tamale and this has been ongoing. That Paul Afoko gave us Ghc100 to purchase a football and promised that if he returns to Accra he would buy them (youth groups) jerseys to keep them United. That Paul Afoko instructed a certain man who was with him and STRONGMAN to write down their names which they did and each person was given Ghc100.”
After which, Asabke added that “Paul Afoko advised us to work towards winning the 2016 elections after that we went to our individual homes.”
