Afro-Arab Drive Green has reached another milestone in its youth empowerment initiative following the arrival of an additional 50 electric vehicles (EVs), bringing the programme’s current fleet to 100 vehicles.
The initiative, which has a target of 1,000 electric vehicles, is aimed at creating opportunities for young people to become vehicle owners, drivers, business owners and entrepreneurs.
The latest addition was announced as another step towards achieving the broader objective of using electric mobility to empower young people and create employment opportunities.
The Changan E-Star was officially launched last Friday, marking an important stage in the expansion of the initiative.
With the latest vehicles added to the fleet, Afro-Arab Drive Green is now 10 percent of the way towards its planned 1,000-EV target.
The programme is being championed by Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, who has maintained a commitment to creating more than 2,000 jobs for young people through the initiative.
The youth empowerment project is designed to provide participants with access to vehicles while creating opportunities for them to generate income through driving and other entrepreneurial activities.
According to the organisers, the focus goes beyond simply putting electric vehicles on the road. The broader goal is to enable young people to own assets, operate businesses and build sustainable sources of income.
The arrival of the additional 50 vehicles is therefore being viewed as another step towards turning that vision into reality.
Commenting on the gradual progress of the initiative, Alhaji Salamu Amadu reportedly used the popular saying, “Rome was not built in a day,” to emphasise that the 1,000-vehicle target will be achieved progressively.
The organisers acknowledged that the project is still at an early stage but expressed confidence that additional fleets will arrive as the programme continues.
The latest milestone means that 100 vehicles are now in the fleet, leaving 900 more to reach the stated target.
The expansion also comes at a time when electric vehicles are attracting increasing attention globally because of their potential to provide alternative transportation options and contribute to the development of cleaner mobility systems.
For the organisers of Afro-Arab Drive Green, however, the primary focus remains on the economic opportunities that the vehicles can provide to young people.
The initiative seeks to create a pathway through which beneficiaries can move from being job seekers to vehicle owners, drivers and business operators.
As more vehicles are expected to arrive, attention will now turn to the next phase of the programme and how additional young people will benefit from the initiative.
The organisers have indicated that another fleet is expected to arrive soon as they continue working towards completing the planned 1,000 electric vehicles.
With 100 vehicles already in place, Afro-Arab Drive Green says its journey towards the full target is continuing.
