A toilet operator is battling for his life after he was shot by suspected armed robbers at Aboabo-Akurem in Kumasi.

The vicinity came under siege at about 1:40am as the armed gang robbed residents of their valuables in the wake of the Coronaviruslockdown which came into force on Monday.

The victim, named as Yakubu Moshi, was shot in the abdomen after he reportedly struggled with the attackers, who had demanded money from him.

“He was seen struggling with the attackers. We thought they were members of the taskforce enforcing the directive. They suddenly asked him to surrender his sales which he refused. We suddenly heard a loud noise which suggests he may have been shot”, a resident told Dailymailgh.com.

Another said: “I saw four of them. They have robbed many of their valuables. I thought they were members of the Covid-19 task force but I realised they weren’t after I noticed they were not security operatives”.

The victim is responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital at the time of filing this report.

Pellets of bullets were spotted at the scene when Dailymailgh.com visited as traumatised residents thronged the victim’s home.

Though no arrests have been made, police in Kumasi have since taken over investigations.
