A suspected armed robber has reportedly died following a gun battle between police and a group of suspected criminals near Agbogbloshie in Accra.
The incident occurred at Galoway near Agbogbloshie on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after the Accra Regional Police Command reportedly received intelligence about a suspected robbery operation.
According to the police, four suspected armed robbers travelling on two motorbikes were allegedly heading towards a filling station near Agbogbloshie when a police team moved to intercept them.
Personnel from the Accra Regional Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate, supported by the Operational Unit, reportedly encountered the suspects at the Galoway Police Barrier.
An exchange of gunfire subsequently occurred between the police and the suspects.
During the confrontation, one of the suspects was reportedly injured, while the remaining three allegedly abandoned their motorbikes and fled from the scene.
The injured suspect was taken to the Police Hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead on arrival.
His remains have reportedly been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.
Police also recovered items believed to be connected to the suspected robbery operation, including two unregistered motorbikes. The items have reportedly been retained as exhibits as investigations continue.
The Accra Regional Police Command has since launched efforts to identify and apprehend the three suspects who reportedly escaped during the confrontation.
Investigators are also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged planned robbery and determine whether the suspects may be connected to other criminal activities in the area.
The incident forms part of ongoing police operations aimed at preventing armed robbery and other violent crimes within the Greater Accra Region.
The Police Command has said it will continue intelligence-led operations as part of efforts to protect lives and property and address suspected criminal activities.
The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been publicly established, and the autopsy and identification process are expected to provide further information.
Meanwhile, the search for the three suspects who fled the scene remains ongoing.
