A father and daughter are currently battling for their lives at the Kasoa Polyclinic after a fire outbreak in their five-bedroom house at Kasoa Ash Town near in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the central region.
An eyewitness, Richard Nyarko, who spoke to Adom News said the fire started around 5:30 am but neighbours had difficulty rescuing the victims due to the heavy burglar proof on the doors and windows of the house.
“I forcibly entered the house to rescued the man and his daughter but could not take any property out. The ceiling of the house is a POP design so the burning ceiling kept dripping on them. They are now unconscious and on admission at Kasoa Polyclinic due to excessive smoke they inhaled,” he narrated.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Divisional Officer in charge of Operations at the Gomoa Buduburam, Frederick Adu-Poku urged Ghanaians to stop using heavy burglar proof on their doors and windows to save them from such situations.
However, the Head of the disaster at NADMO in Awutu Senya East, Lawrence Kwamena Bannerman also appealed to Ghanaians to always seek building advice before construction.
According to him, the nature of the building contributed to poor ventilation in the room.
