President Mahama’s aide clashes with Franklin Cudjoe over Dampare’s dismissal

Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, on March 13, 2025, criticized the Founding President of the policy think tank IMANI, Franklin Cudjoe, and security expert Professor Kwesi Aning for heading to the Supreme Court earlier to prevent President Mahama from dismissing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Joyce accused these individuals of allowing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make reckless financial decisions while remaining passive, only to now challenge President Mahama’s decision.

“They sat aloof and watched askance as our country was mismanaged, and looked on as former President Akufo-Addo made reckless financial decisions and just as many frivolous appointments.

“Now they run to the Supreme Court to stop President Mahama from sacking IGP Dampare. Indeed, it is trite learning that leaders have to appoint persons loyal to them, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the country,” her post read.

In response, Franklin Cudjoe challenged her claims, stating, “You mean IMANI sat aloof and watched Nana Addo make reckless decisions? Really? Thanks.”

President John Dramani Mahama, on March 13, 2025, appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President, in accordance with the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, made the appointment.

“President John Dramani Mahama, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police.

He replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.
