National Security chases Mahama appointees over GHS1.6m stadium contract
The National Security is on a manhunt for some former appointees of the erstwhile Mahama administration who paid GHS1.6 million in cash to contractors working on the New Edubiase Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region in 2016.
The construction works on the stadium was awarded to Shakdeen Limited but funding for the project remains a mystery to date.
The Sports Ministry’s budget for 2015 and 2016 provides no evidence of sponsorship for the said project but investigations reveal that the amount paid to the contractor was received in cash from the then Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
In an advertised answer on Parliament’s order paper on Thursday, 1 November 2018, on the status of the stadium, Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, said : “the matter has been referred to the National Security for investigation regarding the source of funding”.
He said the Ministry is committed to providing sports infrastructure throughout the country and therefore will see to the completion of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.
