Zambian model and social media personality Lisa Mutambo, also known by her online name Lisa Mutalu, has died at the age of 25 after becoming unwell in the early hours of August 20, 2026.
Her sudden death has attracted widespread attention in Zambia, with police launching an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Mutambo was known for lifestyle, fashion and travel-related content and had built a sizeable following on social media.
According to the Zambia Police Service, Mutambo had spent the evening of August 19 with two female friends at a hotel in Lusaka, where she worked as a brand ambassador. The three later moved to another venue in the city.
Police said that between approximately 2:30am and 3:00am on August 20, Mutambo’s boyfriend picked up the three women. After dropping her friends off, he took Mutambo to their residence in the Kalundu area of Lusaka.
Authorities said Mutambo became unwell after arriving at the residence and subsequently lost consciousness. Her boyfriend contacted a friend, and they transported her to Victoria Hospital for medical attention.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police have stressed that no visible physical injuries were observed on Mutambo’s body. This detail comes as speculation about her death has circulated on social media, making the ongoing investigation particularly important in establishing what happened.
An inquiry file has been opened, and investigators have processed the relevant locations as part of their efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her body was initially taken to a mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to help investigators determine the cause of death.
Mutambo’s death has shocked her followers and members of Zambia’s entertainment and social media communities. She had developed a significant online presence, with more than 122,000 followers on Instagram, where she shared aspects of her lifestyle and travels.
Her final social media activity also drew attention following her death. She had recently shared photographs with her boyfriend from a visit to Chaminuka Lodge and Nature Reserve, shortly before the incident.
