You are a disgrace to UEW; resign now – UTAG to Vice-Chancellor

The National Executives of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has backed calls for the immediate resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba (UEW),
Reverend Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni

At an emergency meeting held on Tuesday March 12, 2019 and chaired by National President of UTAG, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah it described the conduct of the clergyman as an embarrassment to the respected institution of higher learning.

According to him ,the conduct of the Vice-Chancellor is in variance with the President’s vision for the UEW considering his hostility and victimization of senior members of the University for reasons yet to be uncovered.

“That the victimization and polarization on UEW campus is at variance with the President that the VC should reconcile all factions regarding the impasse which existed before his investiture, as at now over 30 people have been sacked, suspended or demoted arbitrarily.

Having failed his assigned task, it is the considered position that Prof Afful-Broni should resign honorably to save UEW from further chaos. UTAG is demanding an unconditional reinstatement of all staff who have been dismissed, demoed or suspended”.

The association also urged the students to go ahead with their protests to demand for their rights and also urged UTAG members not to allow themselves be intimidated by the actions of the Vice-Chancellor which is deemed tyrannical.

“UTAG calls on the UEW governing Council to be up and doing and ensure that calm is restored”, it pleaded.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Efutu Constituency in the Central region, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin who is not enthused about developments, has served notice to the current Vice Chancellor that he is digging his own grave and could soon be buried in it.

On a post sighted on his Facebook page, he accused the clergyman of heartless victimization of other senior members of the university wondering why he accused his predecessor of same conduct which led to his removal only to be given the position to do worse than was seen.
