Windstorm ravages 32 villages in First Deputy Speaker’s constituency

The storm, which struck recently, caused extensive damage to homes, schools, and farmlands, worsening an already difficult situation for the affected communities.
In an emotional appeal, the Assembly Member for the area, Japhet Festus Gbede, described the scale of destruction as “heartbreaking” after personally touring the affected villages.
He highlighted the plight of struggling farmers whose homes and livelihoods were wiped out in an instant, making it even harder for them to recover.
“This catastrophic storm has affected the entire electoral area, including classroom blocks in Wuxor, worsening an already dire situation. Rebuilding in rural communities like ours is never easy, and for their homes and livelihoods to be destroyed in an instant is truly disheartening,” he said.
Gbede has called on President John Dramani Mahama, the member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, and thr Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, to provide immediate relief, including temporary shelter, food, and other essential supplies to the affected people.
During his tour, some residents expressed concerns that they might not receive the necessary support based on past experiences.
However, Japhet Festus Gbede reassured them of the president’s commitment to their welfare, emphasizing that “John Dramani Mahama is a compassionate and listening leader who will not turn a blind eye to their plight.”
With hundreds of families left stranded, the assemblymember is urging the government and relevant agencies to act swiftly in bringing aid to the affected communities.
