Why Dede Ayew was snubbed from Black Stars squad for World Cup qualifiers – Otto Addo explains

According to him, there are players who perform better than the Le Havre forward in the current Black Stars squad and therefore are ahead of him in the pecking order.
The coach indicated that his selection of players into the national team is primarily based on performance, and those who excel in their respective positions will be given a call-up to represent the national team.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports, Otto Addo noted that Andre Ayew will be given a call-up to join the Black Stars when his performances improve.
“For Andre [Dede Ayew], the team is always open, and I am looking. If we need him, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him,” he said.
Prior to the announcement of the squad for the Chad and Madagascar games, Dede Ayew reiterated that he remains committed to the national team and has no intention of retiring anytime soon.
Dede Ayew’s absence from the team followed Otto Addo’s decision to drop him from the squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which were played in 2024.
After his brother Jordan Ayew was named the substantive Black Stars captain, it remains to be seen if the former Swansea City attacker will rejoin the squad in the near future.
