The Chinese government has expressed commitment to the realization of some key policies of the Akufo Addo administration.

According to the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, government initiatives such as One district One factory and the One Village one dam are plans that are largely in tune with China’s development objectives for Ghana.

Although President Akufo-Addo wants Ghana to be independent of any foreign assistance, Ghana and China have recently agreed on many partnerships to aid development.

But speaking during a visit to the Speaker of Parliament, Shi Ting Wang said, the Chinese government would offer Ghana the needed support to achieve its development ambitions.

“For instance, President Akufo-Addo’s policy initiative of one district one factory, one village one dam and Ghana Beyond Aid, those are actually initiatives that we share in the same source of development. The two countries will work closely for the development of Ghana.”

H.E Wang further mentioned that China was ready to assist in the expansion of Ghana’s parliament house and that further requests should be channeled through the ministry of finance.

“Also we are positive about your concerns of the extension of your Parliament’s building. If you have a request, submit your request and proposal through the finance ministry.”

‘Partner with Ghanaian companies’ – Nana Addo urges Chinese investors

President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged the Chinese business community to take advantage of the enhanced business-friendly climate in the country to invest in Ghana.

“Our flagship agricultural programme, “Planting for Food and Jobs,” our renewable energy sector and ICT growth are all areas of considerable opportunity. These are all sectors you can profitably partner with Ghanaian companies, some of whose representatives have come all the way from Ghana to be here with me.

“Walk hand-in-hand with China and her business community, because we desire to walk far”, President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that China has, since 2015, been Ghana’s largest trading partner, with total trade amounting to some $6.7 billion in 2017,” he added.

China relations necessary; but we must learn from history – Nana Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has encouraged Africa to learn from China’s past woes with the “Western Railways imperialism” as it enters into necessary development deals with the East Asian nation.

The President held up China as a new avenue for addressing Africa’s infrastructure deficit.

He said, “it is obvious to us that the development trajectory we had been on for many decades is not working.”

“We must address our infrastructural deficit. The traditional methods of tackling this problem will not provide the answer. We are looking for new ways to resolve it. Ghana, like many countries in Africa, is forging relations with China to make arrangements to help address part of our infrastructure deficit.”

Africa’s ties with China have been points of concern and criticism in recent times.
