We are ready for 2028 – Afenyo-Markin
Minority Leader and Member of Parliament of Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up for the 2028 general elections, emphasizing the party’s readiness to prove itself as a better alternative to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking in an interview with Lantam Papanko on GHOne TV’s State of Affairs, Afenyo-Markin reflected on his role as Minority Leader, describing it as a demanding but necessary responsibility.
“Seeing that I’m in my first term of being a Minority Leader, the work, more or less, is the same. You just go here and there, get around matters every day, and face its challenges. You have to show leadership and find your way around. It’s not a job where you can sleep and expect all to be well,” he said.
He assured the party faithful that, despite the challenges, he remains committed to delivering on his mandate.
“Our aim is to show the Ghanaian public that we are ready for 2028 and that, given the opportunity, we can do better in governance than the NDC. They are forming their government, and we are also getting ourselves ready for the task ahead,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
Acknowledging that leadership comes with both successes and setbacks, he noted that the process of governance is a continuous learning experience.
“Every work comes with a challenge, and you have to face it and move on. You will succeed in part, you will have some failures, and you will have some challenges. But all these add up to maturity on the job and a better understanding of governance,” he explained.
The Minority Leader reiterated his commitment to leading the opposition constructively, ensuring that the NPP holds the government accountable on critical issues.
“The NDC should expect constructive opposition and criticism. We will not go at them on trivial matters but will raise serious issues of national interest. Where cooperation is necessary, we will engage, because that is what Ghanaians expect,” he assured.
Afenyo-Markin concluded by reaffirming his dedication to his party and his role, stating that those who chose him for the position recognize his capabilities.
“They know what substance I am made of, they know my understanding of the party’s ideals, and I made a promise to them that I won’t let them down,” he said.
