According to a news report, Apraku has been a cherished member of the school community for his kind spirit and constant encouragement.
For years, he is reported to have shared his desire to own a Jeep Wrangler, but this dream seemed unattainable as he worked tirelessly, sending money back to his relatives in Ghana.
The surprise, which culminated in the presentation of the Jeep in the school’s parking lot, was the result of a GoFundMe campaign led by students Logan Georgelas and Bennett Hibshman.
After learning about Apraku’s dream during a conversation outside the weight room, the students decided to act.
“If we had a bad day, he’d be the first guy to ask, hey, are you ok?” one of the students said.
“We wanted to do something special for him because no one else was going to,” another added.
Their campaign quickly gained traction, raising $5,000 on the first day alone. Within four months, they surpassed their $20,000 goal, raising around $22,000. With the help of a local car dealer, they found the 2015 Jeep Wrangler for Apraku.
When the big day arrived, Apraku was visibly emotional as he saw hisred-coloured dream car parked in front of him.
“My leg started shaking, I couldn’t stand, I had to get myself on the floor, and I was crying,” he said in an interview.
“I give thanks to Almighty God for making today for me, this is a great day, and I never believed this would happen in my life. I will never, ever forget today, not because of the car, but because of the kids.”
