VIDEO Leaked Chats: Tribal politics hits Ashanti Region NDC; sharply divides ranks

There is a calculated ploy to sideline Akans from becoming executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the party’s primaries, MyNewsGh.com investigations have revealed.

A group calling itself the Ashanti Caucus’ within the party has already lamented and petitioned the national executive body of the party over the purported move.

At an executive meeting held last month, it was reported that a leading figure within the party expressed grave worry over the party’s inability to use indigenes in various regions to front its executive body for party branding and identification to positively affect the party’s electoral fortunes.

However, in an intercepted conversation and videos available to MyNewsGh.com, various non-Akan members of the party have strongly objected to having Ashanti’s and people of Akan origin becoming executives in the party, describing the contribution of such persons to the fortunes of the party as zero.

A National Officer aspirant of the party is seen as a key leading figure advancing the agenda.

He in a private WhatsApp conversation is captured questioning why one Henry Osei Akoto of an Ashanti origin is seeking to contest him for the position in the party.

In separate videos attached to this publication, a supporter of the party in the Ashanti region has also served notice to the party to dare elect Ashantis as leaders of the party in the Ashanti region as the consequence will be dire.

The supporter who is seen fuming in the video expressed that it is non-Akans that vote for the NDC in the Ashanti region and so, they must be given the nod to steer the party’s affairs.

“If non-Akans do not take over the party in the Ashanti region, who will? Which people vote for the NDC in the Ashanti region? Isn’t it the non-Akans?.

85% of the party members in Ashanti region are northerners and non-Akans so why are the so-called Ashanti caucuses crying over the decision to let non-Akans lead the party?

We are waiting for you, bring Ashantis to the lead the party and you will see?.” The angry supporter said in Twi in the intercepted video which was originally shared on NDC’s Communication platforms.

Ahead of the NDC’s party primaries, in the Ashanti region, only two members of the executive body (Francisca Adu Yeboah- Dep. Women’s Organizer and Alex Kwaku Asafo Adjei- Dep. Comms. Officer) are known Ashantis. The rest of the executive body are non-Akans.
