Video: First Allied S&L customers hit Kumasi streets over deposit lockup

Customers of First Allied Savings and Loans in Kumasi, have hit the streets to protest the lock-up of their funds with the financial institution.

The customers say for more than four months now, the Savings and Loans company is unable to pay them their monies over claims of ‘no money’.

“Anytime we go to them, they say, we should come back at the end of the month so there is no money. That’s been going on for some five months now,” one of the demonstrators told Joy News.

According to them, they have sent a petition to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He has met with the officials of the Bank of Ghana to discuss the issue, they claim.

The demonstrators also say they are appealing to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to come to their aid.

“We know Nana [President] will do it for us,” one of the leaders of the demonstration said.

Scores of the customers poured on the streets of the Ashanti Regional capital to register their displeasure with the company. Many of them said they need their monies to cater for their children and transact business.

The customers also say the Ashanti Regional authorities have up to a week to respond to their plight or they will head to the capital, Accra.
