Former President John Mahama has asked the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), to unblock drains in areas affected by last Wednesday’s flooding to prevent another flooding.

During his interaction with victims of Sahara, Adabraka, Mahama also urged NADMO to provide the victims with all the assistance they can get.

“We urge the authorities not to give up as they continue to unblock the drainage so that the water will flow when the rains come,” he said.

He also mentioned the need to speed up the clearing up of drainage to prevent the community from getting hit more severely.

Addressing the residents, the former president in the company of Klottey Korle MP, Zanetor Rawlings and some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) he urged the communities to maintain a clean environment.

The heavy downpour last week resulted in the Odaw River overflowing its banks; displacing many who live in Odawna and Adabraka Sahara.

Some other areas affected by the rains include the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Spintex, the Dome Pillar 2 road, Ablekuma, parts of Teshie, the Obetsebi Lamptey roundabout and parts of Dzorwulu.

In April 2019, some parts of the capital city were also submerged in water after a downpour.

Five people were killed in April during an earlier flooding.
