Two Women, One Man: Meet the new security chiefs of GIS, Prisons, GNFS

President John Dramani Mahama has once again reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring gender balance and equality in his governance.

The latest security appointments made by the president have seen the elevation of two women to higher ranks, reflecting the importance of female representation in his administration.

Deputy Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has been promoted to the rank of Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service following her appointment.

Additionally, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong has been appointed as the Chief Fire Officer, while DCI Samuel Basintale Amadu has been named the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service.

These new chiefs have been appointed to oversee the administration of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Below are profiles of the newly-appointed security chiefs for the following security agencies:

Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Ghana Prisons Service

Baffoe-Bonnie, promoted to the role of Deputy Director-General of Prisons, boasts of over 36 years working experience in prisons administration, and has held various managerial staff and command positions as an officer since joining the service in 1987.

Baffoe-Bonnie previously served as the Director of Prisons in charge of Services and as the Director of Technical and Services.

Her other command positions include Officer-In-Charge of James Camp Prisons, Greater Accra Regional Commander, Chief Legal Officer, Greater Accra Regional Legal Officer, Welfare Officer, Course Commander, and Adjutant at the Prisons Officers’ Training School.

She also worked at various facilities, including James Fort Female Prison, Senior Correctional Centre, Kumasi Female Prison, and Sekondi Female Prison.

In addition to her extensive experience in the prison service, Baffoe-Bonnie is also a lawyer. She holds a Post Graduate Law Degree Certificate from the Ghana Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Ghana. She is an alumnus of Tema Secondary School and Winneba Secondary School.

Baffoe-Bonnie is actively involved in various organisations, including the Ghana Olympic Committee Women’s Commission, the Women and Children Committee of the Ghana Bar Association, the African Union (AU) Women Election Observer Group, and is currently the National President of the Prisons Ladies Association.

Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong

As part of the Fire Management Board, Ntow-Sarpong has been promoted to the rank of Chief Fire Officer, succeeding Julius A. Kuunuor as the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service.

She previously served as the Director in charge of Fire Safety and has received several awards in recognition of her outstanding contributions and performance in the service.

Samuel Basintale Amadu

The new Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service holds a Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Ghana, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from the same institution.

He previously served as the Regional Commander for the Bono Region.
