Two killed over goat theft

An angry mob Saturday killed two people in Ntchisi District after they were allegedly found stealing goats.

Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Richard Kaponda said the two were found stealing goats at Mbewa Village.

“Communities mobilised themselves and started chasing them until they were caught at Masanya Village in Traditional Authority Chilooko’s area [in the district],” he said.

Kaponda said the alleged thieves were using a Sienta motor vehicle which was smashed and set ablaze by the angry mob.

He identified the deceased as Innocent Nyirenda who was driving the car and Vekerani Timothy.

A third person, whose identity has not yet been established, escaped from the scene.

Meanwhile, police investigations are underway to bring the mob justice culprits to book.
