Two arrested over death of three persons in freak accident
Police in the Eastern Region have arrested two persons whose activities caused the death of three individuals at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.
The two suspects, Jerry Jiriku and Sefa Sampson were part of a group of people mounting billboards at Kyebi for a yet to be constructed vocational training school when the billboard reportedly fell on a high tension cable and instantly electrocuted 13 workers.
Three of the victims, Kwadwo Wadasi, 25, Joshua Oboye, 20, and Agyei Taller, aged 40, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kibi government hospital after they were rushed there.
The remaining 10 workers who sustained various degrees of injury are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the incident to Citi News said his outfit has begun investigations into the incident.
“On February 17 at about 18:30hours, One Jerry Jiriku, Director of Jerfix International, a company that deals in graphic design, printing and branding, accompanied by one Sampson Sefa Boateng all from Accra came to Kibi charge office and later reported that, about 15:30hours on the same day, he was mounting a billboard for a yet to be built platinum Vocational and Technical school at Kyebi Asikam on behalf of Mr Jerry Jiriku”
“They succeeded in mounting one billboard and when they started to mount the second one, it fell on a high tension cable and got thirteen (13) workers electrocuted. They were rushed to Kibi Government Hospital for treatment but three of them namely Kwadwo Wadasi age 25, Oboye Joshua age 20 and Agyei Taller age 40 were pronounced dead on arrival and five persons namely Danso, Emmanuel age 32,Charles Kofi Nyarko age 45,Stephen Namor age 33, Nana Yaw Ofori and Karikari Richard age 22 were treated and discharged while five others namely Larbi Phillip age 34,Asante George age 30, Ebenezer Addo age 30,Haruna Abdul Rahaman age 23 and Owusu Isaac age 15 are also on admission responding to treatment”.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh added that the police has taken photographs of the scene to assist in its investigations.
He said the bodies of the deceased persons were deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy”.
“Meanwhile medical reports forms were also issued to those on admission for endorsement while Jerry Jiriku and Sampson Sefa Boateng have both been detained to assist in investigation”.
