Trotro hits two pedestrians at Lapaz as dumsor renders traffic lights non-functional

A traffic accident occurred at the bustling intersection of Lapaz in the Greater Accra Region at 8:40 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024.

A commercial bus, locally known as “trotro,” hit two pedestrians, a woman in her late 30s and a man in his late 20s, as they attempted to cross the busy road.

According to a GhanaWeb reporter who was present at the scene, the accident was caused by non-functioning traffic lights, which were out due to a power outage in the area.

Witnesses at the scene quickly intervened, removing the unconscious victims from the road and transporting them to the nearest hospital for emergency care.

This incident comes as the country faces a series of severe power outages commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’.

Many Ģhanaians have been lamenting the effects of dumsoŕ on their livelihoods ànd safety especially on the roads as streetlights and traffic lights tend to go off whenever there is a power outage.
