Transport Operators Association announce 15% increase in transport fares

According to the Transport Operators Association of Ghana, “in response to the continuous rise in fuel prices,” it is “compelled to announce a 15% increase in transport fares”.

The increment, per a Wednesday, December 4, 2024, statement by the association comes into effect tomorrow, Thursday, December 5, 2024.

“This decision has become necessary as we face increasing operational costs, making it unsustainable to maintain current fare levels,” the statement explained.

“We kindly appeal to the public to bear with us during this challenging period, as this adjustment is critical to ensure the viability of our operations and continued service delivery.”

The Transport Operators Association, also, took the “opportunity to caution our drivers not to succumb to intimidation or undue pressure from any individuals or groups seeking to prevent the implementation of this fare increment”.

“In the past, certain leadership members from our umbrella organizations have allowed government officials to influence the withdrawal of fare adjustments. However, we are resolute in our decision this time around,” the association noted.

“We urge all Ghanaians to support this adjustment and appreciate the need for a sustainable transport system amidst the prevailing economic conditions,” the statement emphasised.

It concluded by encouraging “all Ghanaians to participate peacefully in the upcoming general elections on 7th December 2024.

“Let us work together to uphold peace and unity in our beloved nation.

“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

Paa Willie (National Chairman of C-DAG), Nana Wiredu (Deputy Secretary); David Agboado (PRO, Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana); and Yaw Barimah (PRO, True Drivers Union) signed the statement.
