Some unidentified youth hurled stones at Asantehene’s convoy in Techiman on Monday, December 2.
The incident which occurred in the Bono East Region has sparked widespread concern across the nation.
According to a preliminary police report, the Asantehene’s convoy was returning to Kumasi after attending a funeral in Nkoranza when an unidentified youth believed to be from Techiman hurled stones at some of the buses in the convoy.
But in a video shared on social media platform X, the lady alleged that some youth among the convoy of the Asantehene provoked the attack after they stopped their vehicle and smoked weed in front of the Techiman Chief’s palace.
“What I know is that some Ashantis drove through Techiman for a funeral at Nkoranza, but when they got to the roundabout, they parked some of their vehicles, and some people alighted. Some of them then went and stood in front of the chief’s palace, smoking weed.
“In fact, I cannot go and stand near the Manhyia palace and do anything bad. If you respect your chief, you have to do the same to a chief of another town when you visit the area. However, these people did not do that; instead, they decided to smoke weed near the palace.
She added: “That aside, some of them beat people who were going about their legitimate duties in town. Some people who were carrying water had the water taken away from them and poured onto the ground. An elderly man was beaten on his chest with a whip as they were shouting that if there are men in Techiman, they should come out and face them.”
